What is dividing Us?

For 11 years, Kenya as a country has enjoyed a period of relative political stability but over the past two months, a level of rage and political extremism has surfaced. To get a better perspective, let’s examine the current political situation in the country.

Corruption, corruption, corruption, political betrayal, political betrayal, poltical betrayal. In summary conflict is pretty much the theme of everydays main story on our Television. Why and how have we become so polarized in this first quarter of 2019? To understand, let’s look at Mike, a staunch Ruto and Jubilee Supporter. Mike doesn’t have his own strong political believes because in part of how he was raised up. He grew up in a family whose political allegiance was to the tribal kingpin. We can’t blame Mike for his tribal loyalty being that all his life he has always known the tribal kingpin to be speaking for him. If Today Ruto supports Musalia, then Mike will give him a vote without question.

Mike’s story is like many others who support Raila or even the President. But what are Mike’s reasons for supporting Ruto? He supports Ruto first because the Deputy President is loyal to whomever he stands with. This is evident from his strong Support of Raila in 2007 and Uhuru Kenyatta in 2013 and 2017. Second would be to a large extent his geographical birthplace which is rift valley.

What is it that Mike doesn’t know about probably a Raila Supporter who’s so against the deputy President? Let’s call him Henry. Henry just like Mike support Raila because he was born in a family that were supporting Raila. He can’t be objective because he believes whatever Raila says is the Universal truth. He’s probably against Ruto because Raila has alleged him(Ruto)to be corrupt. No one can say for sure that the deputy President is Corrupt, all we’ve been hearing and seeing in the media are corruption allegations and linkings.

With that fact stated. Do Mike and Henry have the best interest of Kenya at heart or are they just blind followers of their respective kingpins?

Mike and Henry should take a step back and talk of the real vice: Corruption and lies. Mike on top of all the good reasons for supporting the deputy President should take into consideration how Henry is feeling about the corruption allegations and ask himself if they are true. Henry on the other hand should look at Mike’s good reasons and ask for a second if those are good grounds for supporting a person. Henry should understand that the corruption links could be mere political propaganda channelled to minimize Ruto’s Chances on clenching the presidency. All I’m saying is for you to look at the issues with a third eye.

We are divided because we don’t question what the other side would like us to know about their beliefs. We are divided because we don’t want to look at the other side of the coin. We are divided because we don’t empathize with how we are making the other side feel. For us to bridge this divide, we must pledge our allegiance to the country and not to some influencial politicians. That means, asking ourselves what would our children be happy about? Which kind of leaders would they admire.
As one writer says:
“Having an informed electorates is the surest way to having a better country”
Let’s Learn so that we can better our country.

Dear H.E President Uhuru Kenyatta

Dear sir,

Hope this finds you well. Since your very first big victory in 2013 many of us didn’t believe in your capability, but after outstanding record in the first seven years, we can boldly say that in deed you’re the best Kenyan friends and president the Country has ever had. You’ve taught all of us the art of leading without bashing your opponent. You’ve taught all of us that indeed we can be one irrespective of all the divisions among the Politicians. You’ve taught all of us that in fighting graft, putting the interest of people is always the wisest choice.

I want to thank you for the many roads you’ve built in this country. There are places 10 years ago,I never imagined I could travel to but because of you I now have the opportunity to witness the true beauty of this country. A decade ago,I didn’t imagine seeing electricity in my rural home, but because of you my rural home is now the shiniest home in the whole globe.

Who ever thought that Kenyan would ever have a president who would stand against all odds to say no to vices such as corruption and tribalism?

To Youngsters, indeed you’ve inspired us. Millennials and Generation Z are very proud of the kind of example you’ve given us. Our generation is inspired by you. You may not feel like you’ve accomplished many things but if there’s one accomplishment you’ve achieved, I’d say inspiring a generation. Now a tiny kid from Turkana now has some hope of having the same opportunity like a kid in Nairobi.

I want to heart fully thank you for the bold step in your building Bridges initiative. Despite, the attacks from left, right and centre on how bad the thing is, I’d say it is a necessary evil. At first I thought it was a plan against the Deputy President William Ruto, but after a few months of objectivity, I believe it has truly united the country. For once in two decades I’ve seen Kenyans speaking in one accord.

Onto Big Four.
Achieving the Big Four is close to impossible, but it’s not too late to achieve the Big one. President kibaki is remembered for stabilising the economy and implementing the free primary education. You’d be remembered for so many good things like having a well balanced cabinet, championing for women and finally doing something real in the standard gauge railway. Going to Mombasa has never been fun and fast as it is now. With three years to go, doing something on health could tremendously add onto your many legacies. I choose health, because it’s a basic need though I won’t mind if you implemented something on manufacturing or even affordable housing.

Onto my last plea,an opportunity to see you,the former prime Minister, the Deputy President and the former Nairobi Governor Aspirant Miguna Miguna together would be a dream come true. I’m an optimist Mr President, and a photo ops or even a lunch in of the four of you would speak something truly meaningful. It would teach Kenyans that all of us are a family. It will show Kenyans how mature our politics has become. It will carry with it a message that indeed we may differ on ideologies but that doesn’t meaning we become enemies. It will show Kenyans how our politics reflect the good and the humanity in us and not the worse and the darkness in us. Kenyans are so in need of all the best ideas out there. As Nelson Mandela says

“May Your Choices reflect your hopes and not your fears”

The main thing is to keep the main thing the main thing.

Regards,
George Collins.

Don’t be So Harsh on Them: Truth about friends

If you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid.” — Mr. Albert Einstein

I personally believe that the way we exert pressure among our peers and friends isn’t fair. The other week I was a subject of argument among my friends about how I spend most of my time doing nothing. My friends believe that the only way to be productive is by earning cash. Unlike me, they argued that betting is actually beneficial than reading because a Gambler, when lucky enough, brings something to the table at the end of the day.

I respect every one’s right to express their opinion, but I feel it’s very unkind to measure others according to our metrics of success. A student can graduate, but take a few months without getting a Job, not because he’s damn but due to some weaknesses in other soft skills like networking. Being a top performer isn’t everything in the real world. Am a victim, I call myself an average student. Since my graduation last year, I’ve learnt that school really didn’t teach me much. I’ve learnt that in addition to the compassion and humility some of my professors tried so hard to instill in me, I needed more.

If I could get another chance at being in campus, I’d do my best to work on my confidence, Public speaking, writing and negotiation skills.

They are a killer outside here.

Back to my case, I’m a Strong believer in cooperation as a way to success and that judgement is a sure way of hindering progress. We are not all blessed equally. Where we are weak others are strong. Working towards uplifting one another is the sure way to bettering ourselves.

It feels bad being told the truth. In my case it was a blog that wasn’t getting too much traffic. Another time it was me being in a room without having a Job. The only thing I can control in the two situations is my effort. In the case of the blog, it’s posting. On the Job part,it was writing a CV and a Cover letter and leaving everything else to God.

It’s frustrating. I’m craving a good life but there’s just no much I can do to get it. Our minds are developing and the best investment I believe in is feeding our brains with knowledge and skills. Richness doesn’t matter to me that much, but I don’t know about you. If you’re below 25 reading this,I believe we should agree on this. There’s no point of having a lot of richness without the right brain to manage it.

That’s why our employed, working and entrepreneurial friends shouldn’t judge us harshly. They should empathize with us. They should understand that life isn’t a parallel line. They should understand that basic journey of life is detours. To my friends who’ve been victims, I’d ask you to keep doing your best. Play your role and learn.

Must Read For all 22 Year Old

Just before I started writing this article, I got a call from my mother asking me how am fairing with school. Well, as every one else would say, I replied I was fine. Genuinely speaking, I’m not! I’m tired, stressed and passionate to make this life better. I understand that this can’t be a single man’s Job, but am lazy, meaning taking shortcuts is my way of doing things. I want to leap frog 20 years ahead. I want to have a kind of wisdom that only a 80 year old me would have. I want to learn everything in this World. I want to be exposed to the darkest of secrets in this planet and yes I want to remain Young and naive and innocent.

This is my aspiration. I aspire to intelligence and am motivated by the need to think Differently. On 31st December 2018,I gave Christ a Chance. Days after that I got a revelation, a need to lead;that said I launched my Gubernatorial candidacy awareness. Three months down the line, I’ve been exposed to so many challenges and insights one being the need to think Differently. It was a lot to take in the first four weeks, but now it’s become my daily cup of coffee. I find reading and waking up and listening to Ted enjoyable. Even during my full time daily Job, I find myself listening to podcast along side my daily tasks. I have laid my hands on three issues of the End of and frankly speaking am proud of the aisle 2019 is taking me on.

But here is the sad part, exposure to so much knowledge opens your mind to things you’d rather not know. It opens your heart to hatred and anguish. It makes you cry sometimes. You feel a huge burden to make the knowledge you’ve learnt into use but still at the end of the day you feel like you haven’t done enough. Witnessing ordinary citizens getting manipulated and brainwashed by governments, Politicians, religious organizations and corporations is heartbreaking. On the silence of my midnight rest on the bed, all I agonize and crack my head about is what more can I do. Was launching my candidacy the wisest choice? What if it’s not in line with God’s calling? What if God wanted me to be something else? Am never sure, no one , not even the articles, books and the websites I read can give me that answer. That answer can only be found deep inside my heart.
