If you bought Apple stock instead of the original iPhone, which would be the better investment?

The first smartphone, designed and marketed by Apple, hit the shelves in June 2007.
RT decided to calculate how much a $500 investment would be worth today if the money had been invested in Apple stock instead of buying the original iPhone.
On June 29, 2007, the official release date for the first iPhone in the US, Apple Inc. was trading at about $17.50 per share. As of Wednesday, Apple shares were trading near $171. Rough calculations show that an investment of $500 made in Apple stock 12 years ago would be worth about $5,000.
